Power Grid Modernisation in Zhetysu Region Enters Active Phase

Taldykorgan Joint-Stock Transport and Power Grid Company is moving ahead at an accelerated pace with the reconstruction and modernisation of power networks in Zhetysu Region, with financial support from the Development Bank of Kazakhstan JSC (a subsidiary of Baiterek Holding, hereinafter – DBK, the Bank).

Construction and installation works are now under way at the project sites. In the Eskeldi, Koksu, Karatal and Sarkan districts, 4,492 new power line poles of various types have already been installed.

At the same time, preparations are being made for the next stages of infrastructure development across a number of key sections, including in the Aksu and Kerbulak districts.

Earlier, the Development Bank of Kazakhstan and TATEK signed an agreement to open a credit line worth KZT 9.16 billion to finance the initiative, which is being implemented under the national project for the modernisation of the energy and utilities sectors.

The project provides for the renewal of more than 474 kilometres of power transmission lines of various voltage levels, the modernisation of cable lines and the full reconstruction of two key substations.

“For our company, this project is, first and foremost, a responsibility to the people of the region. The existing infrastructure is under significant pressure, and our partnership with the Development Bank of Kazakhstan has enabled us to promptly begin replacing the most critical sections,” said Assylbek Nursalkhanov, Chairman of the Management Board of TATEK.

The project is expected to improve living standards, ensure a stable power supply to social facilities and reduce the wear and tear of the region’s electricity networks. Construction is scheduled to be completed, with the facilities fully commissioned, in January 2027.

For the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, this is not the first project involving a natural monopoly operator supported under the national project for the modernisation of the energy and utilities sectors. Such projects are aimed at expanding and improving power grid coverage in regions with a combined population of more than 1.5 million people. Since the launch of the national project, the Bank has received 64 power grid modernisation projects from natural monopoly operators in six regions, with a total value of KZT 145 billion, for review.
