Dina Zhanadil, Managing Director of the Development Bank of Kazakhstan JSC (a subsidiary of Baiterek Holding, hereinafter – DBK, the Bank), took part in the session “Financing the Transition,” dedicated to mobilizing capital for clean energy and infrastructure projects.
In her presentation, Dina Zhanadil highlighted the role of DBK in financing sustainable projects and shared the Bank’s practical experience in mobilizing capital for renewable energy and infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan. The session also covered mechanisms, challenges, and opportunities for scaling up financing, taking into account practical examples and new initiatives.
“Kazakhstan is currently moving actively toward an energy transformation aimed at increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the country’s energy mix. In addition to the development of renewable energy projects, an important focus remains the modernization of existing energy and utility infrastructure, which will improve the efficiency of the national energy system. The Bank is a key participant in the implementation of this National Project,” - noted Dina Zhanadil.
As part of the presentation, the Bank’s renewable energy (RES) project portfolio was also presented. Through DBK’s financing, 751.8 MW of renewable energy capacity will be commissioned, representing about 24% of the total installed RES capacity in Kazakhstan.
Among the Bank’s major infrastructure initiatives is a project for the reconstruction of national highways, implemented jointly with KazAvtoZhol JSC – the national operator responsible for managing Kazakhstan’s road network.
The event, organized by the British Embassy in Kazakhstan with the support of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, brought together leading experts, representatives of government bodies, international financial institutions, and the private sector. During the discussions, participants explored new initiatives to develop concrete strategies for ensuring a just energy transition in Kazakhstan.
