The Development Bank of Kazakhstan JSC (hereinafter referred to as the Bank, DBK, a subsidiary of of "Baiterek" National Managing Holding JSC) and the project company Taiqonyr Qyshqyl Zauyty LLP have entered into an agreement to open a credit line for the implementation of an investment project for the construction of a sulfuric acid plant with a capacity of 800 thousand tons per year in the village of Taykonyr, Turkestan region.
The total cost of the project is 113 billion tenge, where the full–fledged technology partner is the Italian company Ballestra, a licensor and supplier of full-cycle technologies, equipment and engineering services.
The plant will be located near uranium mines in the village of Taykonyr in the Sozak district of the Turkestan region, which will ensure efficient logistics of the key reagent, sulfuric acid, necessary for the underground well leaching technology used in uranium mining. The main consumer of the products will be NAC Kazatomprom JSC.
The aim of the project is to reduce dependence on imports of sulfuric acid, ensure a stable supply to the Kazakh uranium industry, increase the country's industrial safety, stimulate related industries, and create new jobs. During the construction period, up to 500 people will be involved at the facility, and 274 specialists at the operational stage. In addition, the project will contribute to the development of infrastructure and strengthen the social stability of the region.
The plant is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
As part of its activities, DBK adheres to the mandate to finance major projects in the fields of manufacturing, infrastructure and tourism. The Bank is a national development institution authorized to implement state investment policy and government incentives for industry.
