DBK studies the UK’s best practices in industrial decarbonization

From March 3 to 7 of this year, representatives of JSC Development Bank of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as the Bank, DBK), as part of the delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, participated in an industrial decarbonization training program supported by the British Embassy. The program addressed key issues, including low-carbon development policies, incentives for industrial decarbonization, financial mechanisms to support green projects, and prospects for cooperation in sustainable energy.

During the panel session "Decarbonization in Kazakhstan: unlocking investment opportunities", organized by British Expertise International, Managing Director of DBK, Dina Zhanadil, highlighted the Bank's role in sustainable development and energy transition. In her speech, Dina Zhanadil emphasized that DBK actively supports Kazakhstan’s sustainable development by financing environmentally significant projects aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of its loan portfolio and promoting clean energy initiatives.

As part of the visit, representatives of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), and the Department for Transport of Britain shared advanced practices in industrial decarbonization, coal transition, emissions trading, energy security, achieving net-zero emissions, decarbonization of the transport sector, and hydrogen capture and storage technologies.

Additionally, the delegation visited industrial sites in Kent and Cardiff, where they explored practical examples of innovative technology implementation. These included a visit to Panasonic’s factory featuring solar panels, battery systems, and hydrogen fuel cells; an energy park housing a large-scale battery storage facility; and a Hydrogen Center.

Furthermore, DBK representatives participated in a roundtable discussion organized by the Welsh Government and the Development Bank of Wales to discuss the outcomes of the visit.
